The Monaco Historic Grand Prix — What Is It?
🏁 Monaco · 24-26 April 2026 · Vintage racing cars · Ticketed and invitation accessThe Monaco Historic Grand Prix is organised every two years by the Automobile Club de Monaco. It brings together pre-1980 racing cars — authentic machines, meticulously preserved, brought back to life on the world's most iconic circuit. Not replicas. Not parade cars. Real racing machines competing wheel-to-wheel through the streets of Monaco.
The event is structured into series by era:
- Series A (1936-1960): ERA, Maserati 4CLT, Talbot-Lago, Gordini — the golden age of motorsport
- Series B (1952-1965): Ferrari 250 GT, Jaguar E-Type, Aston Martin DB4 — absolute glamour
- Series C (1961-1965): Lotus 18, BRM P57, Ferrari 156 "Sharknose" — Formula 1 in its purest form
- Series D (1966-1972): Brabham, March, Tyrrell — the downforce era
- Series E (1966-1976): Porsche 911, BMW 2002, Alfa Romeo GTA — raw touring cars
- Series F (1977-1980): Wolf WR1, Ligier JS11, Fittipaldi F8 — the last mechanical dinosaurs
It is one of the rare events where you can watch a Ferrari 250 TR or an Alfa Romeo 158 run at full speed — cars worth tens of millions of euros that, in any other context, never leave their museum display cases.
Legends That Actually Race
What sets the Historic Grand Prix apart from other classic car gatherings is that the cars actually race. Not at reduced speed. Not in a procession. They qualify, they compete, they overtake each other through the tunnel and around the swimming pool. The noise, the vibration, the smell of hot oil — all of it is real.
Among the machines you can expect to see in 2026:
- Ferrari 250 GT SWB — widely considered one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever built
- Maserati 250F — the car with which Fangio won his final world championship in 1957
- Lotus 49 — the first Formula 1 car with the Ford Cosworth DFV engine, raced by Graham Hill and Jochen Rindt
- BRM P57 — 1962 world champion with Graham Hill
- Porsche 911 RSR — icon of 1970s GT racing, with its screaming flat-six
These cars don't race for championship points. They race because their owners — and the invited drivers — have the rare opportunity to bring them to life in the most mythical setting imaginable.
A Fixture on the International Jet-Set Calendar
The Monaco Historic Grand Prix is not a motor show. It is a premier social event. Monaco transforms into an unmissable gathering for collectors, wealthy enthusiasts, great European families, actors, business leaders and continental royalty.
The port of Monaco — already spectacular year-round — fills with superyachts arriving from Sardinia, Ibiza and Antibes. The Hermitage, Paris, Métropole and Columbus hotels sell out weeks in advance. Private terraces overlooking the circuit command extraordinary sums. Gala dinners are held in villas along the Côte and aboard yachts moored in the bay.
This is Monaco at its most intense — elegant, exclusive, electric. The kind of event where how you arrive matters as much as arriving on time.

Request a QuoteWhy Finding a Taxi in Monaco Is a Nightmare
Monaco is an independent Principality of just 2 km². Uber does not operate here. Neither does Bolt. French VTC apps don't work across the border without specific authorisation. Ride-hailing platforms simply don't work in Monaco — a reality many visitors discover too late, already stranded at the port with their luggage.
Monegasque taxis exist — there aren't many of them, demand far outstrips supply, and during the Historic Grand Prix:
- Queue times outside the Hôtel de Paris or the train station reach 30 to 60 minutes on race evenings
- Streets around the circuit are partially or fully closed during qualifying and race sessions
- Local drivers who know the authorised access routes are already booked by hotels and private event organisers
- The train from Nice or Menton is packed, and drops you far from the grandstand if you have luggage
The result: without proper planning, you'll spend more time managing your transport than enjoying the event. That's not the experience you came for.
